Acquisition of bat activity is done by the batcorder. A unique algorithm recognizes and triggers recordings of bat calls while other noises are generally ignored for triggering. Thus, bushcrickets and other noises usually do not lead to sound files. Files are stored digitally with a high sample rate (real-time spectrum). The application bcAdmin offers a simple to use database for managing recordings and recording sessions. It also searches for calls in each recording, analyses these calls and extracts measurements for each valid call. The open-source tool bcDiscriminator identifies species automatically based on the supplied measurements.
